Black herald has brought a prophecy,
he flew through the deep valley.
Plague and blight he brought to the people,
from the high tower he gazed into the distant land.
His eyes fixed on the horizon,
he spread his wings under the stars,
then descended upon the moonlit trees,
and the fire of life withered in the veins of old.
The flame of the candles swallowed all,
gnawed to the bone, burned to dust,
the oak-wood quenched the thirst,
with the silent wail of the mourning ones.
The chill of the full moon and frost of the cold land
rose in the haze of burning pyre.
Into the vastness of the slumbering land
the toll of the bell had welcomed death.
